Born and raised in the Midwest, Peter Apathy holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Bradley University (Peoria, IL) and a Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from Vanderbilt University (Nashville, TN). He has worked in health care IT for nearly his entire career. He moved across the country from Miami, FL to Sitka in 1991.

Peter started playing piano at an early age and played tuba and electric bass through college. Since then he’s played bass in numerous jazz, folk, R&B and rock groups as well as in the pit orchestra for many musicals. He currently performs regularly in Sitka with the Jen Reid Trio and Slack Tide.

Peter is currently the Operations Director at KCAW Raven Radio in SItka. He has served on multiple boards and supported numerous nonprofit organizations. In addition to his work with SMF, Peter volunteers with Sitkans Against Family Violence, the White Elephant and the Sitka Fine Arts Camp.
